Sometimes you just have to be glad you live in America.

Even though in some other countries, you think you have as much freedom to do whatever you want, but really, you don't. Americans really have the most freedom anywhere in the world

I always thought HK was as free as can be, but this guy got fined for posting adult pictures on the net:

http://hk.news.yahoo.com/070510/12/276r4.html

I guess you could get fined or jailed just the same if you expose pornographic pictures to minors in the US, but I don't think you can get in trouble (maybe you can, I don't know, never looked into it) for posting it on a forum for adults, espeically if you're not looking for financial gain and it's just straight no wiredness pictures. I can gurantee you can find adult pictures with a quick search on the internet and in fact, you have to be careful not to see them in your everyday online travel, so if you can be prosecuted for posting adult pictures in the US, then lots of people are escaping the law. The facts in the story seems to suggest you could be breaking HK law even if you are sharing adult images with other adults as long as it is publically accessible. You could even get in trouble if it's just words or links as long as people can get to it.

Another articule on this story talked about how the guy got in trouble because the website's servers are based in HK. That seems kind of stupid to me. You could just put your servers somewhere else and you'd escape the law. It seems rather arbitrary and is another example of how laws just can't keep up with technoloy.

This is not to say I condon people posting adult pictures. I am just of the opinion that adults can do whatever they want. The enforcement should be on the website, such that they should not let childern into adult areas. And then there are parents, and what their responsiblities are.

On the other hand, what kind of harm does adult material do to childern as long as those adult material is "normal"? Maybe it's just that I don't have kids, so I don't care so much.

Ok I'm totally going off topic...

Disclaimer: Don't read if you don't want to be sad

Hmm I was reading through some Chinese news today and came across this article.

http://hk.news.yahoo.com/070503/12/26q65.html

And then I found the girl's xanga: http://www.xanga.com/phoenix_kate

It is so sad to know a young life is taken away. And the way it happened too, is so tragic. I am sad.

I remember another news story earlier written by a young guy who was murdered in his house a few hours after he wrote in his xanga (his xanga acutally helped capture the guy who murdered him).

It is a weird feeling to read someone's xanga, who could have very easily been someone I know, and know that they have passed away. The world is not fair, and all we can do is live life to its fullest. Life is so fragile. ...
